grmncrsnbr Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 With deciding to keep my Cooper until its paid off I am wondering what kind of maintenance I should look into and parts I should replace/upgrade. I have 112K mile on it and things seem to be in good working order but I would rather be proactive with this. Are there any suspension components I should be looking at? Bushings? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rickyr53 Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 Control arm bushings Tie rods Strut mounts/towers Gaskets....valve cover, oil pan, crank seal, water pump o-rings. Check to see if your leaking power steering fluid, if so change those lines. Motor mounts, both top and bottom. Im at 105,xxx and I've done all of those on mine with the exception of the motor mounts. Didnt really care to change those out.
Bert Posted April 23, 2012 Report Posted April 23, 2012 (edited) Good listing. I know that you are asking about the suspension but the only other things to consider, look at the last time they were replaced if ever, may seem obvious but they are: The other fluids, besides motor oil (brake fluid, transmission, antifreeze (flush it too)) Battery (every 3-4 years, maybe 5 if you are lucky and it has been garage kept) Exhaust pipe and muffler (have you gone through one yet? You or a mechanic can do a visual check.) Edited April 23, 2012 by Bert Ernie McStreet's facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/erniemcs.street
grmncrsnbr Posted April 23, 2012 Author Report Posted April 23, 2012 Yeah I was going to have Mach V do a check over the whole car as well. The battery was replaced when I got it. THanks for the heads up, just want to start getting a list together and some planning in. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
