  1. I enjoyed meeting several DCMM members Saturday at the MINI of Sterling "Meet & Greet". No two people were alike, yet everyone was very nice, certainly interesting, and quite welcoming to the new guy on the block. What a friendly group! Sorry I didn't go to the "Lost Rhino", but my youngest daughter asked me to watch Ohio State (her alma mater) take on Illinois at "Glory Days". You know how that goes... I look forward to future DCMM events and seeing many of you again.

  2. Ghostbusters theme? MINI owners are definitely "not normal". And that's awesome for a conservative guy like me - I think it's great to associate with people with a flair for life. Nobody in my circle of friends would employ a Ghostbusters theme on their vehicle, paint their wheels neon, or display helipads and British flags on their roof.

  3. I'm slowly becoming a MINIac myself. Until my purchase, I had no idea what the MINI culture was all about. I frequent this site, NAM, and Motoring Alliance and, as each day passes, I become more enmeshed in the MINI world. And nobody cares about age, gender, race, occupation, or other personal attributes - the MINI connection trumps all. I like it. :top:

  4. Mind you, my daughters are Ohio State and Alabama graduates. The Buckeyes play Illinois at noon, so I'll have to get to a TV by kickoff (someone mentioned "Lost Rhino"). My Roadster John Bull just hit the 300 mile mark - perfect excuse to fire up the MINI's turbo.

    Go Buckeyes!

    Roll Tide!

    MINI "Not Normal"!

  5. I'll have to look into MOTD. My '14 Roadster S might have a little fun and his driver may be vastly entertained. I'll have to check the timing - we are selling our house so we can move to Belleair, Florida around June. Sounds like a great time from all I've read of MOTD.

  6. Ignorant and/or lazy... In 4 months back here I've gotten maybe 3 waves... 10 years ago as the club was starting you would be waved at from 90% of the MINIs you saw - however there were a lot fewer MINIs around, and a lot of those who bought a MINI back then were an enthusiast of some sort or another... Now, with 5 dealers within 50 miles of each other and a tremendous secondary market the MINI is a lot more mainstream in the area. There's a lot more commuters, students and other folks who view their MINI as just a car and not an entry into a community. As a result they typically don't know, and more likely don't care about the wave...

10 years ago there wasn't much of a difference between a MINI owner and a MINI Enthusiast - the same can't be said now.

The reality is that today at least in this area, the wave is more MINI enthusiasts recognizing each other and less MINI owners recognizing each other.

That being said, yesterday I got a wave from a White Countryman with Black stripes on Telegraph Road just south of Van Dorn St... I totally wasn't expecting them to wave back...

I think you've hit the nail on the head: Enthusiast vs. Owner.

  7. I get waves in my Roadster, but usually because I initiate them. Been keeping an eye out for you in the neighborhood too, but no sightings of John Bull yet!

I'm out there, so keep looking! Surely, we have to be the only Roadsters in the Centreville area. Had my top down all day yesterday - what a great day for motoring! I had coffee at Starbucks last night (by Kohl's in Fair Lakes). While sitting outside enjoying a cigar and espresso, I watched a few cars pull up to my parking spot to check out the Roadster. It's so rare, I actually think people stop simply to find out what it is. As an aside, I must say my Roadster has the best manual transmission I've ever driven.

  8. I think the problem is with the people that think their MINI is just a car for commuting. It pains me that their MINIs don't know love.

You're probably right. I have 159 miles on my '14 Roadster S - a two-week Florida vacation interrupted my break-in period - but I can honestly say my MINI is more than a "commuter car". There is a major difference between driving and motoring, one that becomes more obvious each time I fire up the turbo and hit the streets of Northern Virginia. And when the top goes down ..... yikes!

  9. Just picked up my '14 Roadster S from MINI of Sterling today. If you see a Pepper White Roadster with the JCW exterior package and chrome driving lamps on the road, it's me! Wave and I'll promptly wave back if I see you. Look for me in the Clifton-Centreville area and Route 66 en route to/from the Vienna Metro. Let me know if you see me, waving distance or not. I'm curious about the number of sightings of people visiting the DCMM site.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  10. Yeah, you have to be a club member to post attachments, sorry!

Welcome to the DCMM Forums! I hope you love John Bull, and I look forward to meeting you and your new baby at an event soon. We hope you consider joining as a member!

I'm debating it. There's under 3 months left in the '13 membership and then we plan on moving to the Florida Gulf Coast in June '14. I'd have to purchase two memberships for '13 and '14, even though I'll be leaving the area in less than 8 months. My timing is horrible. DCMM seems like such a great group too. And there's several members near Clifton, VA. :frown:

  11. Dealership was closed today (Sunday), but I went to see my new Roadster anyway. Still wearing delivery wrap and slightly dirty, he still looked great! Delivery tomorrow! I'm not authorized to "post attachments" at this site, so I can't show you pictures. But I can tell you I met John Bull and he lived up to my expectations!
