  1. My lovely ladyfriend(some of you all know her), Dana came to my hose Friday, with pics to share of a project at her mothers house. Once done looking through the pics, she hands me a warranty card, to which my response was something along the lines off, "a warranty card for 15 pics?", she informed me it was for my camera. . . . . confused, I said WHAT camera?. . . she said your NEW camera, goes out, comes back in, and in front of my sits a brand new, Nikon D7000!

She knew I had been beating around a few ideas, but I was torn between full frame, and just upgrading from my trusty ole D80, but stopped even dreaming of upgrading because of the slew of medical bills I know are coming(I just had total hip replacement), so figured in a couple of years, I would look at the Nikon D600. Right now, full frame is just a LOT of camera for me, and I think I get by just fin with a DX, so FX I put off the table.

I am still shocked, still amazed, and still just so immensely overwhelmed that she did that, and so far, I have just been amazed at the camera.

Sorry for the long reply, but I want to give Dana all the credit, as it's the most amazing, and certainly the most thoughtful gift I Have EVER received, "just because". What a woman!

    Great story.

    Congrats!

  2. Ali,

Gonna be out of town for a Family reunion. I'll just try to remind you for the next event that we both attend.

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure I have a lot, I will try to bring them next Sat to the Scavenger hunt
  3. Ali,

Anymore Eight Ball Gas Cap decals?

    M.

So cleaning the basement today I came across a few things I don't want

    1. An organizer for the boot, it would be fine in a hard top, doesn't fit in the boot of the cabrio. Mark doesn't want it for Max. It's a soft sided black organizer with some dividers. It's width is about as wide as the back of the MINI, and it's about a foot deep, sides are about 8-10" tall. I'm not getting off the couch to measure it

    2. Tiger design down pipe covers (I think that's what it's called, covers the bars that go up and down near the center controls). Someone gave these to me, and as cute as they are, it is near impossible to get them installed on a post refresh gen one. Soooo if you have an '02 - '04 you might want to add some swanky style to your MINI. Have at it....

    3. I also have a slew of the Gen one gas cap decals, The eight balls, crazy eye balls and skulls.

  4. Brand New! MINI COOPER Genuine Factory, Black Carpet Floormats 2009 - 2012

    Front and Rears

    Retail on Amazon for $114.

    $75 obo.

Also, a friend from NC is selling a boot organizer for 2002-2006 MINI Coopers. It the cool one with the Union Jack on one side and black on the other and fits on top of a storage unit (included) with several compartments. She said she paid $280 and is willing to part with it for $100 plus $10 for shipping. Message me if you are interested and I'll put you in touch or shoot you photos.

  5. So if I am reading the chart correctly, My front engine strut is ok for S but when I put the 22mm rear sway bar I have to jump up to T. Correct?

It depends on what mods you've done to the car.

To start off, you need to determine which "Group" you are in. Since you drive a Cooper S, you are in Group 2.

Then, you need to determine which class you are in. That depends entirely on what mods you have done to your car. Some mods are considered minor enough that you would be in Showroom Class, for a final class code of S2 in your case. However, there are many mods which automatically bump you to "Tuner" class, which would put you in T2 class.

Finally, the people who really went nuts and did all kinds of very serious mods to their car... go into the "Modified" class. They don't even bother with the groups at that point (i.e. it doesn't matter what kind of car you have), so that class code is just M.

The full list of rules on the classing can be found here:

  6. Also,

Make sure the logo is facing outside (makes sense that they'd want to advertise). It will stick on either side but will fall off (eventually) if not installed logo side out. You should be able to feel some ridging as you swipe your finger across the inside. Also if you use a little water (very little) you will get some slight bubbles until you leave your MINI in the sun for a couple of days. After that, you can be assured if won't come off unless you force it off.

Thoroughly clean the inside of the windshield, as in: use a glass cleaner. Also ensure the LightInSight is completely clean before applying it. A little bit of moisture (water is fine) on the LightInSight before applying it could help too.
  7. I like both songs that get airplay but I was put off by the subject matter of the Pumped Up Kicks song. Any song that's youthful oriented and talks about outrunning bullets and guns freaks me out. <-- parent coming out.

Hah! The thing is, it's just that one song (Pumped Up Kicks) I can't stand. I heard their other single on the radio the other day, and I didn't mind it.

That one song would keep me away from the concert anyway, unless I was being paid and got to bring earplugs.

  8. I think you are confusing 2 different pieces of tech - the iPad and the GoPro. The iPad is wirelessly connected to another piece of tech called an OBD II scanner (not pictured - plugged into the OBD II port under the driver side dash near the bonnet release). It reads codes (e.g., torque, MAF, MAP, etc.) from your car. It can even check (and even cooler) reset fault codes. When the your MINI starts to complain or drive oddly just check what's wrong. If you ever take your MINI to the track or other motoring event it can be really useful. If you sync your video with your data log playback (yep, logs can be replayed) during a motoring event you can know what the heck your car was doing or as I like to say "see how Taz was feeling" when I took a turn at 65 mph.

As for the GoPro: True -- the photos GoPro are a bit noisy but the conditions (a covered garage) were pretty harsh. For a sub $300 camera that you can slap on the end of you car or your helmet whilst jumping out of an plane or skiing down a mountain, its a pretty cool device. If I want something pro, I use my Canon DSLR. I'd never strap my 60D to a car or my helmet.

Damn, it's illegal to drive and not be hands free nowadays, let alone having what looks like a order window hanging in the left. . .I guess I am just missing what it does? If it is for photos and stuff, I guess I just don't see the advantage as the stuff above is really noisy, and over saturated, imo. :dontknow:
  9. Green Cactus,

Here is the link to the mount. I really like it. I prototyped my own (non-suction cup based) mount but this thing is bullet proof!

"Mike - what mount do you have for your ipad? I've been looking for one of those."

  10. That's funny!

Interesting video - there's a lot going on with that Dashcommand app! Thanks for sharing.

No criticism on Adele... she's an amazing talent. I took more issue with the Foster The People song (I HATE that song with a passion... makes me want to jab pencils in my ears... thank God for mute!).

Catalina - I've done one better... converted it into an embedded video. :top:

  11. This video is for the folks who were interested in the Dashcommand in my car. The system is comprised of an iPad 2, PLX KIWI WIFI and the Dashcommand app.

Shot with my GoPro Hero 2 HD. The bonus coverage has the GoPro mounted to the tow hook.

    :motor:

  12. Ali,

It's not considered a fisheye as much as a wide angle though there is some distortion on the corners. The post was done in a couple of places. Initial color and exposure correction was done in Aperture (I'm a Mac nut) then some color effects/filters were done in FX Photo Studio Pro.

Things I didn't use on these but really like and would recommend without hesitation:

Photoshop along with most Adobe products gives me hives (though I do use it from sometimes). If I want to work in layers, I go to Pixelmator.

Nik Color Efex, Silver Efex and Viveza (really love this one) are my go tos for really serious post.

Thanks for the complement. I have some non-MINI stuff on 500px if you are interested --including some HDR stuff and I use Photomatix Pro for that.

    Mike,

Those are really cool. Does the gopro have a fish eye lens?

I love how you played with the colors. What are you using for post processing?

  13. That's why they invented tab browsing. I usually have this site + Motoring Alliance + Twitter + Motoring Connection up all at the same time. I never open Facebook. <-- I really hate that site.

NAM gets opened once in a while but it's kinda dead.

Cool done, but how ever will I keep up with all these sites!?!?
  14. All,

Check out http://MOTORINGCONNECTION.com - a social network for MINI owners!

MOTORING CONNECTION is a social community like facebook for MINI owners only. It's kinda blowing up. 175 signups in under 24 hours. Get you name secured while you can.

So far it's a blast. A bunch of folks from Motoring Alliance are there and many of the clubs are registering there as well. It'd be nice to see DCMM have a presence there.

  15. Sorry folks. I had my default thread notification set to "zippy".

You found the Facebook page which has some info, not a lot. It's supposed to be really good folks, laid-back atmosphere and two main runs. One easy going and one "spirited". The location brings a lot of TN, NC and GA folks together. A smattering of southern VA and coastal folks as well. Hotel rates are reasonable and I may convince Way of Way Motor Works to put my rear sway bar on!

If anyone does end up going, shoot me a PM so we can get together while we are there.

    Mike
