  1. I can recommend Mach V - as I'm not an officiall member yet, I had my pre-cat (on an '02 as well) bust up, and they were able to cut it out and weld in a replacement pipe, as well as cut and re-weld the cat-back system I have to fix a mis-alignment. They came in under estimate and took 'bout 4 hours.

Despite having to talk to a couple STI drivers, it went well. :)

  2. I saw a BRG mini with black/gun metal spokes a few days ago in Middlebrook road and 355 intersection in Germantown. Is that your mini by any chance?

Ah, no - Moxie's alt color is white - white roof/wheels/mirrors/A panels. However, I have seen that Mini out along Wysteria Drive/119/Middlebrook. Haven't gotten a wave from them yet. *sigh*

All, thanks for the references. I'm calling and getting info/prices now, so hopefully the Classic will be up here soon so I can get him out on the roads. :)

  3. Mike: Okay, my bad! :) I am actually in Douglasville. I know exactly where Ellijay is. I used to have a boss that lived up there and commuted to Roswell, and I was basically her personal assistant so I was up there all the time.

Yes, I'm in ATL MINIS with this screen name, but it's a new screen name for me. Previously I went by Catmint (I think).

Someone brought a Classic to the last meet (the picnic at Stone Mountain). It was PinkMINIGirl's hubby, I think. It's red with the right-hand drive (or maybe they all have RHD?).

Hang on! Moxie! You are Foxtrot! What the heck are you doing up here??

Technically, not all. Some exports were shipped LHD. Mine, "Bo", was RHD but changed over to LHD when it was shipped over here. Hey, Catmint, MisterTripps! Yeah, I went/go by Foxtrot_Xray over there. Due to my service in the service being SO long ago now, I've been getting away from that screen name for a while now. :)

I spent the last year in Jasper, and migrated daily to Marietta and back. I'm up here now due to the poor economy down there. Lost the toy-breaking job in May, and after 4 months, had less hits than I could count on one hand. I had a really good offer up here. So my plan is to hang out up here with you guys for a few years, and eventually head back to Georgia once the economy improves.

Unless you guys throw me a really big party... then I may consider staying. ;)

  4. Hey Mike! Welcome to the DC area! Well, I shouldn't say that because I'm not there yet either, but my husband is already there. I am also in N. Georgia. In Douglasville, just West of Atlanta. Where were you from? And yes, I agree about the traffic. What's worse is the condition of the roads up there. It seems the farther North you get in this country, the worse the roads are!

Hope to see you at a meet real soon.

You are NOT from 'North Georgia'. You're from Atlanta. ;) Are/were you a member of AtlantaMINIs? Your screen name looks familiar. Anyways, I'm from Jasper / Ellijay - 'bout 75 miles north of Atlanta, 30 miles south of the TN/GA/NC tri-state area. (Up I-575/GA515.) :)

Yeah, I noticed the roads too. I work in downtown Silver Spring, and while I've been in town only 4 weeks, I've driven in to work twice. I think Georgia Ave. broke a weld in my header! :frown:

Look forward to going on some drives, both with the group and alone. (Hey.. some things are okay with only one.) Hopefully I'll be unpacked soon and have a place for the Classic to sleep, then I'll be ready to go.

  5. Mike / coyttl,

I am afraid I can't help you with the "non-dealer MINI shop" question, at least not in your area. If you're willing to drive down to VA, one option is Mach V - they have been good to the club and are actually one of our "official vendors".

As for the "locked garage" question - one option is to get a ground-level self-storage unit that you can just drive the Mini right up into, and lock. One of our former members did that for his MINI over the winter last year. Many of the storage companies allow you to park cars in their storage units.

Oh, and welcome to the area! :itsme:

Thanks! Coming from N. Georgia, it will.. take a while to get used to this area. :D Ya'll's traffic is the worst I've ever had to drive in. Whew!

I have just started looking at self-storage places, so hopefully something'll turn up. There's a lot of nice roads out here - away from DC. :)

We'd be happy to work on the new one. We do a lot of new MINI work. (We don't have a lot of experience with the Classic.)

    Something like this?

    Kidding!

Used to have a Golden, and would consider it again, once I get settled in here. :D

I may stop by you guys sometime - do ya'll specialize in everything, or specific like drivetrain or such?

    Thanks all!

    Mike.

  6. Hey all. I'm new to the area, and will probably officially join the group around the new year, as the rest of this year will be spent unpacking and getting settled.

In Germantown, MD, I have two MiNi's - a 2002 MC BRG MINI with 230k miles, and a Classic 1972 Rover Mini cooper, also BRG and with 53k miles.

So being new to the area, I have two questions maybe someone can point me to -

First off, anyone recommend a good non-dealer show that will work on MINIs (or even Ckassics?)

Second, due to insurance, I gotta keep the Classic in a locked garage and unfortunately, my place up here doesn't have one. Anyone recommend someplace? (Somewhere on the north side of DC< preferably. Heh.)

    Thanks all! :)

    Mike.
