  1. Glenn, you're alive and well!!:motor:

    Alive? YES!

Well? Ack! Why didn't you all tell me that, once you turn 40, something on your body breaks down every single week.

Bev and I have been meaning to get to an event but with Bev commuting now, and traveling non-stop, it's hard to get out to do anything anymore. We'll try to shoot for seeing everyone at the picnic, though. Hope that works out.

  2. Hello DCMM!

Newbie here! So my question for the MINI VETs on here is about Customs and Courtesies amongst MINI Owners. I am from Houston, TX so the southern reaction to wave and/or speak to total strangers is a reflex. I must sadly report that my fellow MINI Brothers and Sisters out here in Fairfax aren't so friendly.

So, tell me! Is there a secret wave or something that lets other MINI Owners know you mean no harm? LOL As funny as it seems, I thought MINI Owners would be like Bike Riders. As they pass each other you can see them exchange peace signs or head gestures.

    Any advice?

I think that in certain areas MINIs are so ubiquitous that they're taken for granted. Virginia has a LOT of MINIs so you'll have those that think it's just a car and those that are enthusiastic about it.

Up in my neck of the woods there are only a dozen or so MINIs so we always get waves. In fact, we get a lot of waves from non-MINIs!

So keep waving or flashing your headlights (as we do) and you'll find other enthusiast who share your passion.

    There rest?....screw 'em.

  3. Blockhead,

Were you by any chance in the area near Sam Eig Hwy and Rio the past 2 days? I think I saw a car that looks like Barbarella in that vicinity.

Yep! I think that Bev was having a night out with the gals and they went down to Rio around that time.

But we live just north of that area so we're always zooming around all those roads. Be sure to say hi if you see us again!

  4. Bev spotted a Mellow Yellow MCS - white top, white sport stripes on Clara Barton last Wednesday. Grrrrreeeeat looking car!

Called to yell at me for taking Barbarella out in rush hour traffic then she realized that car didn't have MD plates.

  5. Had fun in a MINI train on Clara Barton and MacArthur while house hunting last Saturday. A BRG MCS (no stripes) pulled in behind us and followed us for several miles until we caught up with a PW. Got a wave from the BRG when he turned off but the PW was oblivious to us.

  6. omg, I can post on this thread again...what'd you guys do?

You were having problems too? So were both Bev and I so we thought we insulted someone at the picnic!

So...a little belated but everyone did an excellent

  7. Thanks for sharing your story, tnkgurl. I would've said and done the exact same things you did but I guess your plight taught me to rethink my trust that MINI and the dealers would look out for us.

Sorry to hear they both left you out in the cold. :frown:

  8. I saw a couple up in Germantown. Most waved back.

You'll see Bev and myself stomping around Germantown and we always wave.

I remember Bev saying she saw a BRG last week and when I asked her if she saw you she wondered if you were the BRG with white bonnets, green top and no bonnets or the one with the checker mirrors?

    See you around!

    Glenn

  9.

What do you think, if we move this thread to the public area?

So everyone will be able to see, read and post (members or non-members).

    Just a thought.

I've been thinking the same thing.

Bev and I kind of use this thread as a recruiting tool. When we leave a DCMM card on a MINI we usually post the car in here so the people know who tagged them.

Only once in two years have we tagged a current DCMM member vs. a dozen non-members.

  10. We need to brainstorm on how to get more participation in the contests from our members. Everyone loves to look at the photos but there are usually only a handful of us that ever submit.

    Just some food for thought:

    1) Relax the rules a little. How about instead of the rule where the photo must be taken within the month of the contest, maybe we can have it within the last 6 months or year or something? A lot of people take photos during DCMM events but can't use them in the contests because of timing.

    2) Maybe a little incentive.... $10 Starbucks card to the winner? DCMM supplied of course. Laura & Dave...can we dip into the petty cash drawer?

    3) Lastly, let's allow the master of photography to submit. Maxicooper has the best photos and I love to look at anything he does. Of course, he'd win every single time so maybe we can let him submit but can't win....?

    Thoughts?

    Glenn
