While I love my Tigger my shoulder has locked up and in a fair amount of pain. With a long day of driving the Countryman will be easier on my neck and shoulders than Tigger. I have to work harder to drive him. I'm leaning towards taking River right now.

So don't freak out if I show up in the Countryman. She's a great MINI too and the ride won't mess with my shoulder as bad.

Plus, she'll haul all of my gear easily.

I know once I get there I'll miss Tigger but with 3 and a half days of heavy shooting I need to care for myself too

So I hinted a month or two ago that I may be organizing a run for MOTD this year. It turns out I have been too busy to organize an official run (MOTD registration, RSVPs, etc.), but I have decided to go ahead and do a practice run for it anyway - work out the kinks, and maybe make it a "real" run next year at MOTD 15 (in 2017).

The run would basically be from Fontana Village to the new Bold Rock Hard Cider location in Mills River, NC, which is a little bit south of Asheville. It would involve lunch either at the cidery (if they serve food) or somewhere nearby the cidery, and of course cider tasting.

The fastest route from Fontana to the cidery is 105 miles and about 2 hours driving, according to Google Maps. I may experiment with adding a bit more distance and time to that to make it more "fun" (backroads vs. highway), but finding the right balance of drive time vs. curvy roads may be tricky, because with a 2 hour each way drive, plus lunch & tasting, it would pretty much be an "all day" drive.

So Susan and I are planning on doing a "practice run" for this on Thursday @ MOTD (May 12). Many (most?) of you probably already have plans for the daytime there (e.g. I know Ali will be doing photo shoots as a vendor), but for anyone who doesn't have daytime plans on the Thursday and wants to join us, you are most welcome.

The plan is very casual. I may make a simple route sheet - but right now it's all about exploration and getting a feel for whether it would be a viable organized run next year.

Wed night the MINI Skirt Palooza party theme is super heroes, does everyone have a costume? A cape? their tights and undies on top?

We arrive Sunday and I am still trying to decide where to eat Sunday night but I'm thinking the Fillin station in Robbinsville

We are not doing the potluck at our cabin on Monday night any more. Since becoming a vendor I was spending too much time prepping for the potluck so instead we're going to do a dinner run. We leave when Melissa arrives.

I'd like to go to At River's Edge but they close kind of early so not sure we'll make it. Any suggestions for Monday night dinner? Maybe Tapoca and eat by the river?

Who's there for dinner on Monday?

I'm getting so excited. Started packing last night. I packed my super hero costume. I might need to get Tyler to take some shots of Tigger and Cat woman! Meeeow

Since the only official one of these is Wednesday when I'll be helping Ali, anyone wanna do this with me on Monday? I just used the addresses and fastest routes. I figure with lunch and the coaster I wouldn't think we would be back any later than 3 or 4.

Planning on leaving the general store around 9.

We're taking the fastest route and probably just going to follow Waze

Okay, so I'm hoping for a little direction on this...my first time headed to MOTD. First time to the Dragon actually.

Going from the site, http://www.minisonthedragon.com/2016-intro.php, I'm waiting until the 15th to register.

Just curious where most are staying... a little behind the power curve on this on getting a room I guess. Where are some good places to rest the head, with a reasonable distance from where most of the events are happening.

I would like to accomplish as much as possible, but I wonder what things are a must do for a firsty.

Any guidance/direction is MUCH appreciated.

Cheers,

Ross
