Generally speaking\, I prefer to organize this event for the weekend foll owing tax day... but this year I have to do it earlier for these reasons :<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\; <\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;<\;/p>\;\n<\;ul >\;<\;li>\;The IRS has extended the tax deadline to Tuesday\, April 17<\;br />\;<\;/li>\;\n<\;li>\;I have a work-related commitmen t on the following weekend (April 21/22)\, and the weekend after <\;em&g t\;that<\;/em>\; (April 28/29) is immediately prior to MOTD\, which wo uld make things difficult for many people.<\;br />\;<\;/li>\;\n< \;/ul>\;<\;p>\;<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;So... save the date for Sun day\, April 15! Even if you haven't finished your taxes by then\, you'l l still have 2 more nights after that to do them!<\;/p>\;\n<\;p> \; <\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;<\;strong>\;WHERE TO MEET:<\;/strong> \; Sterling Wegmans parking lot (North-East corner). The address is 45131 Columbia Place\, Sterling\, VA 20166<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;<\;strong& gt\;WHEN:<\;/strong>\; Sunday\, April 15 @ 9:00am. Driver's meeting a t 9:50am. We depart at 10am <\;strong>\;sharp!<\;/strong>\; <\;s pan style=\"color:#FF0000\;\">\;<\;strong>\;Don't be late!<\;/stro ng>\;<\;/span>\;<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;<\;strong>\;RUN DISTANC E:<\;/strong>\; <\;strong>\;<\;span style=\"color:#0000FF\;\"> \;68.2 miles (morning) + 69.4 miles (afternoon) = 137.6 miles total.<\;/ span>\;<\;/strong>\; Easy \"early exits\" available in afternoon at 85.9 miles (Rt 66)\, 94.2 miles (Rt 50)\, 106 miles (Rt 7).<\;/p>\;\n <\;p>\;<\;strong>\;RUN TIME:<\;/strong>\; Approx 6.5 hours - w e will return to the Wegmans parking lot at approx. 4:30pm.<\;/p>\;\n& lt\;p>\;<\;strong>\;WHAT TO BRING:<\;/strong>\; Full tank of gas \, 2-way radio\, money to buy lunch (cash please - makes it easier for the check)\, sweater/raincoat/umbrella (if necessary\, depending on wea ther) and a fun-loving attitude! :top:<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\; <\;/p >\;\n<\;p>\;A quick refresher:<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\; <\;/p>\ ;\n<\;p>\;One of my fondest MINI-related memories is the very first dr ive I ever participated in with DCMM - it was the Spring Fling\, create d by Bruce Pancoast (<\;a href=\"http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/m ember.php?u=68\" rel=\"external nofollow\">\;mty_mini<\;/a>\;)\, and organized with help from Jen Oakes (<\;a href=\"http://www.dcmetrominis .org/forums/member.php?u=79\" rel=\"external nofollow\">\;Jen<\;/a>\ ;) (who was our event coordinator at the time). This all happened on Sunday\, April 24\, 2005... only 6 or 7 weeks after I picked up my brand new MINI. Alan (<\;a href=\"http://www.dcmetrominis.org/forums/member. php?u=2\" rel=\"external nofollow\">\;Scavenger<\;/a>\;)\, who was getting his first exposure to the MINI\, came along as my co-pilot.<\;/ p>\;\n<\;p>\; <\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;Meeting in the Sterling Wegm ans parking lot (near MINI of Sterling)\, it was fun to meet a whole bu nch of like-minded MINIacs all at once\, for the first time. Little did I know just how much fun there was still to come... after grabbing som e coffee and/or breakfast snacks from Wegmans.<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;  <\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;The roads were beautiful and twisty\, and was suc h an awesome experience to be in a long line of MINIs for the very firs t time. We stopped for lunch at Orlean Market <\;span style=\"color:# 000000\;\">\;in Upperville\, VA<\;/span>\; (in western Fauquier C ounty)\, then continued on for wine tasting at Naked Mountain Vineyard &\; Winery after that\, before heading all the way back to Wegmans.& lt\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\; <\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\;It was a long day (128 miles or so!)\, but <\;strong>\;so<\;/strong>\; nice. Needless to say\, I was eager to do this run again.<\;/p>\;\n<\;p>\; <\;/p >\;\n<\;p>\;Our lunch stop will be again be at <\;a href=\"http:// www.griffintavern.com/\" rel=\"external nofollow\">\;Griffin Tavern<\; /a>\; (<\;a href=\"http://www.griffintavern.com/menu_brunch.cfm?PageNa me=BrunchMenu\" rel=\"external nofollow\">\;brunch menu<\;/a>\;)\, s ince Orlean Market closed down a number of years ago. Unfortunately\, sinc e it is \"Sunday brunch\"\, the menu is more limited than their regular me nu\, but they still have their famous Shepherd's Pie!
